WHAT ON EARTH IS MOON KARVIASTA?
The Moon Karviasta store consists of the Valtti workshop, the Moon Karviasta store, and a sewing shop (the Karvia office of a multi-professional organisation administered by the Kankaanpää Adult Education Foundation).
The Moon Karviasta store & sewing shop was first established as a dressmaker’s shop in 2011, and the store was opened in 2013. The main purpose of the workshop activities is to promote employment and help people find their individual paths. Moon Karviasta offers jobseekers and students an opportunity to develop their working life skills and professional competence.

Workshop activities are focused on various fields of craftsmanship, and in the case of Moon Karviasta this means textile works. The workshops are equipped with all the necessary machines and equipment. The right attitude to work, the right amount of work, adequate instructions and a great group – these are the cornerstones of our operation. Moon Karviasta will provide you with work experience, support you in controlling your everyday life and equip you with new experiences and visions for the future. Customised projects ordered by our customers improve your work and customer service skills, and it is perfectly possible to even find a new occupation.
At the Moon Karviasta store and sewing shop, employees practice customer service work, such as operating the cash register and receiving and handing out customer projects. The various tasks of the sewing shop include, among others, crocheting, weaving, clothing repair work, and knitwear and decorative fabrics.
The employees’ duties include, for example, cleaning, taking care of houseplants, window dressing, marketing (Facebook, Instagram), pricing and different stages of cooking.
Moon Karviasta also cooperates with companies, associations and various artisans, who can sell their products by renting a table in the store. Moreover, Moon Karviasta supports its workshop participants in their effort to apply for work and education.
MOON KARVIASTA IS UNIQUE
Local artisans can sell their products in the store and gain more visibility for their work.
The clothing repair shop offers services to the local residents, and many bring their old clothes and other textiles to the shop for repair or alterations, which increases the lifespan of the garments. The shop also accepts, for example, recycled fabrics, which are given new life in the different products manufactured at the shop.
The Moon Karviasta sewing shop also produces decorative items, such as curtains, pillows and mattress covers, as well as customised works and subcontracted projects.
Furthermore, the workshop participants receive individual guidance in keeping with their life situation, characteristics, competence and skills.
We carry many wonderful products of the local entrepreneurs and artisans (such as souvenirs, postcards, accessories, gifts and decorative items). And to top it all off, our shop offers a laid-back atmosphere and upbeat customer service.
